| Moving Tips |
Prioritize-With so many details involved in
moving, you need to think about putting the most important things
first. |
Documents—know where your important papers are: insurance, bank
statements, social security cards. Put them in a folder and
keep them handy in case you need them during the course of your
move. |
Personal items—some things are too precious to pack. Certain
items of jewelry or a best-loved stuffed animal should be kept
safe for your travel day. |
Utilities—Be sure not to waste money by paying for utilities
at your old address after you’ve moved, and don’t get caught
at your new home without the services you need! Call ahead to
your local utility companies for shut-off service and set up
services at your future address to coincide with your arrival
in your new home. |
Change of address—You don’t need the stress of worrying that
your important mail won’t arrive at your new address. You can
fill out your change-of-address form quickly and conveniently
online to ensure you’re not missing a thing! Change your postal address. |
Organize-The best way to ensure a stress-free
move is to keep your belongings in order from one location to
the next!
Packing—You want all of your breakables to arrive in one piece
to your new home. Pad them well with newspaper or bubble wrap
and pack securely into boxes, or try using your out-of-season
clothes as an eco-friendly way of avoiding disposable wrappings!
Make sure to mark your boxes with permanent marker.
Be detailed! List contents and the room you intend it for at your new place.
Storage—When you can’t take everything with you on your move, place the items you know will be destined for storage ahead of time and you’ll have one less thing to worry about as your moving day approaches.
Minimize—You don’t want to pack and move anything you don’t have to. Reduce your stress, your costs, and your workload by sorting through clothing, kitchenware, and unused items. Consider a yard sale or making a charitable donation to lighten your load! |
